Freelance web design & development

Web designer & developer in Holmdel, NJ

I build fast, custom websites — plus web apps and custom software — for businesses and professionals, from a first storefront to an established company. Based in Holmdel, NJ. I work with clients located anywhere. Modern, mobile-first, easy to update, and built to own. One person, start to finish: the one who builds it is the one you talk to — senior-level work, without the agency overhead.

Why hire a web developer in the age of AI

When AI tools like Base44 can build a website in minutes, and ChatGPT or Claude can crank out code in seconds — why pay a person? Because AI alone can't give you this:

You own it — pay once

How AI does it

AI builders host your site for you, on a subscription plus usage credits.

Limitations of this

You rent it forever and own none of it. Stop paying, and it’s gone.

Problem I solve

I build it once; you own the code and host it anywhere for next to nothing. No subscription, no lock-in.

Avoid ADA lawsuits

How AI does it

AI generators output markup that looks finished.

Limitations of this

It’s almost never accessible — and most owners don’t know ADA applies to websites, leaving them open to accessibility lawsuits.

Problem I solve

I build and test to WCAG 2.1 AA, so it genuinely meets the standard — not just looks finished.

Security, tested

How AI does it

AI produces code that runs and looks fine.

Limitations of this

It routinely ships with security holes it never flags — until they bite.

Problem I solve

I build it secure and test for the vulnerabilities before real customers and their data ever touch it.

A consultant, not just a coder

How AI does it

AI code tools — Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot — generate code fast, but only what you ask, and only as good as the prompt.

Limitations of this

Turning that into a real, working system takes architecture and system-design experience it can’t give you.

Problem I solve

I’m your technical consultant: I learn your business, architect the right system, and steer the AI to build it — direction, not just code.

Custom-built, no ceiling

How AI does it

AI site builders — Wix, Squarespace, Base44 — assemble your site from their pre-set blocks, themes, and features.

Limitations of this

You’re boxed into what the platform allows — their layouts, their features, their plan tiers. Want something they didn’t build? You can’t have it.

Problem I solve

It’s custom code — no ceiling: any design, any feature, even a full web app, scaling as big as you grow.

Compliance-aware

How AI does it

AI builds the page; compliance isn’t its job and it won’t bring it up.

Limitations of this

A site can trigger legal obligations most owners don’t even know exist — until there’s a problem.

Problem I solve

I build to them, and flag when you genuinely need a lawyer.

Why it matters

You pay a builder every month, forever, for a site you don’t own — and can’t take with you.

Fact

Base44 (now Wix-owned) and similar AI builders run $16–$200/mo plus usage credits that don’t roll over. Hosting on Cloudflare’s free plan has a limit of 100,000 requests per day (Cloudflare pricing).

source

My process

I hand over everything, in your name: the code in your own repo, your domain, your Cloudflare hosting, and every other service it uses (CMS, email, etc.). It’s yours to keep, move, or hand to another developer — no leash.

You own it — pay once

Why it matters

An inaccessible site is a lawsuit waiting to happen — and settling costs real money even if you fix it afterward.

Fact

Industry trackers logged ~4,000+ U.S. web-accessibility lawsuits in 2025 (UsableNet, Seyfarth, EcomBack), most against small and mid-sized businesses. Settling a demand letter commonly runs $5,000–$25,000 plus legal fees, and "overlay" widgets don’t stop the suits.

source

My process

I run automated accessibility scans (axe-core and WAVE) across the build, then test by hand — full keyboard navigation, a screen-reader pass, focus order, color contrast, reflow, and status messages — all against WCAG 2.1 AA.

Avoid ADA lawsuits

Why it matters

A breach, a spam flood, or leaked customer data lands on you — not the tool that wrote the code.

Fact

A 2025 Veracode study found AI-generated code introduced a security vulnerability about 45% of the time — leaked API keys, unvalidated forms, and missing spam/rate-limiting, the stuff the tools don’t flag in their own output.

source

My process

I keep secrets in environment variables (never in the code); validate, sanitize, and rate-limit every input against spam and abuse; protect and test against common attacks like XSS and injection; enforce security headers and HTTPS; and scan dependencies for known vulnerabilities and keep them patched.

Security, tested

Why it matters

A slow, generic build quietly loses you customers and search rankings — speed is money.

Fact

Google found 53% of mobile visitors leave a site that takes more than 3 seconds to load; faster pages convert better; and page speed (Core Web Vitals) is a Google ranking factor.

source

My process

Because I use these tools daily, I know how to steer AI and LLMs to produce precise, efficient results — not generic guesses. And the way I build — static-first on a fast stack — means your site typically loads in about a second, well under Google’s 3-second bar — without trading away features, accessibility, or SEO to get there.

A consultant, not just a coder

Why it matters

Outgrow a builder and you don’t upgrade — you rebuild from scratch.

Fact

A builder can only do what its editor and app marketplace allow, so anything past a basic site — a real database, a dashboard or admin panel, file storage, user accounts, automations, or a full web app like a booking or planning system — is off the table or capped by your plan tier.

My process

I build whatever your business actually needs — the site, plus any database, dashboard, file storage, integrations, or custom system (a booking tool, a planning system, a client portal) it calls for. I handle all of it, and hand it over as yours.

Custom-built, no ceiling

Why it matters

The fines or complaints land on your business, not the builder — and most AI builders address none of it.

Fact

Depending on who you serve, a site can trigger privacy-policy, cookie-consent (GDPR/CCPA), terms-of-service, email (CAN-SPAM), and ADA obligations. Some carry real teeth: under the CAN-SPAM Act, every marketing email that breaks the rules can draw an FTC penalty of up to $53,088 — per email, with no cap.

source

My process

I build to the ones that apply — privacy policy, cookie consent, and safe handling of any form data — and flag clearly when something genuinely needs a lawyer. I’m not one, and I’ll tell you when you need one.

Selected web design work

Cadooga & Vanvir

  • Originally paid ~$10,000 to an agency for just 6 pages across two sites
  • $500/month in hosting fees for the two sites
  • Paying for tools they didn’t need — ~8 paid seats (the agency’s whole team) on a basic website
  • Built on Webflow — slow and awkward to update
  • A much weaker product for the money
  • ~80% less time spent updating the site — a much easier workflow
  • Accessibility issues found and fixed
  • Hosting moved to Cloudflare — no more $500/month hosting fees
  • One-time payment, and they own it
  • Pay only for what they actually need — nothing extra
  • Form submissions from both sites are wired into their existing backend and admin dashboard, right next to the rest of their proprietary data
  • Saves them money — no extra form or CRM tool to pay for, since it runs on infrastructure they already had

“Having everything in-house is so much simpler than managing Webflow and paying for a bunch of things we didn’t need.”

— Regina Debellis, CEO, Cadooga

Madz Photo

  • A new photography business that needed more than a website
  • No professional email or organized business setup
  • No clear process from camera to client
  • A custom portfolio site she owns — on her own accounts
  • A custom booking flow built exactly to her requests — clients pick a package and date, she approves each booking, with no monthly subscription
  • Whole infrastructure set up: domain and professional email, organized exactly the way she wanted
  • A clear photo workflow: back up originals to offsite storage, edit, and deliver through a gallery service — plus a plan for when to move onto her own delivery, so costs stay low as she grows
  • Taught how to use it all and guided her technical decisions — what to use, what to skip, and when to change course

“Tomas set everything up and made it simple and easy for me, so I can focus on my photography.”

Website design FAQ

Do I need a domain?

Not to get started, but you will want one to launch. A domain is your web address, like yourbusiness.com. Without one, your site only has a long temporary address that customers will not remember. If you already have a domain, I connect it. If not, I can help you pick and register one in your name, so you own it. Domains renew yearly through the registrar. Connecting your domain is included with every plan, and professional email setup is an add-on.

Can you update or maintain an existing website?

Yes. For a site I built, the optional care plan ($75 a month) covers updates, small changes and upkeep, and the first 30 days are free. For a site someone else built, tell me what it runs on and what you need changed. I will tell you honestly whether it makes sense to update it or rebuild it as a site you own.

What do I need to give you to get started?

Just tell me about your business, what features you want on the site, and how you want it to look. That is the real starting point. Then send whatever you already have, like wording, photos, a logo, your domain name, or sites you like. I will tell you if anything else is needed. Timelines start once I have what I need.

Can you move my existing website from Wix, Squarespace, Webflow or WordPress?

Yes. I rebuild an existing site as a custom site that you own, with your content carried over, so you stop paying a builder’s monthly fees. Cadooga and Vanvir were Webflow sites I moved this way.

Can you build a web app, not just a website?

Yes. Besides websites, I build web apps like booking tools, client portals, CRMs, ERPs and dashboards, with a database and a secure login. They start at $8,000 and are scoped to what you need.

Can you build AI, facial recognition or blockchain projects?

Yes. I build AI features like chatbots and smart search, and image or face recognition, by connecting existing AI models to your product. Facial recognition involves biometric privacy laws, so I scope those projects carefully. Blockchain is case by case: tell me what you need and I will say honestly whether I am the right fit. These projects are custom quoted.

Can you guarantee I’ll rank #1 on Google?

Nobody can promise that. What I do is optimize your website’s SEO to give it the best chance. I research what your customers search for and use those words in your titles, headings and page structure. I build fast, mobile-friendly pages, and I add local business details if you serve a specific area. I also submit your site to Google Search Console so Google finds your pages sooner. SEO setup is included with Standard. Where you land still depends on your competition and how long the site has been live.

Do you only work with businesses in New Jersey?

No. I am based in Holmdel, NJ, and I work with clients across Monmouth County, New Jersey and anywhere else.
